Early Fall Backpack
I grew up backpacking in the Sierra’s with my dad and brother since I was seven. We always mixed it up where we would go, but still to this day, the Eastern side has always been my favorite. This is the real Sierra’s that most never get to experience. The Eastern side is quite different from the West’s gentile foothill incline that most folks backpack out of; or Tahoe… which is really the extreme north tip of the range itself.

The East is the actual demarcation of the fault line that runs parallel with the range. This makes the range on the East, sudden and extremely high in average elevation. This is where ALL of the highest peaks in the range are. This is the high Sierra.
I like it here because everything is so huge and grand and makes me feel so tiny and fragile. The weather can be sudden and extreme, significantly more than the West, causing that much more depth and grandeur.
Here are just a few shots from that trip in late September.
