Southern Sudan developing

I’ve been working on various proposals for the NY Times for an upcoming trip. One of the stories is on the potential separation between Northern & Southern Sudan that is due to be talked about in 2011. However, the Southern Sudanese are getting restless and are threatening to pull out of a pivotal cease fire.

So needless to say this is being pulled from the back burner and is given higher priority. Editors have been calling me lately about this and the feasibility of doing this story. If this were to go down in Sudan, entrance into the South will be near impossible following this decision; so the window of telling this story could be very limited.
